If you bring food that needs to be grilled, then please bring your own grilling supplies and show up early!  Feel free to bring games, Frisbees, balls or other activities.

The Masculine Mandate

The Masculine Mandate: God’s Calling to Men
By Richard Phillips

Jerry Bridges on The Masculine Mandate:  Richard Phillips “gives us an accurate picture of what it means to be God’s man.  The reader will come away reassured that even though he may possess none of the attributes that the world deems essential for a ‘man’s man’, nevertheless he can be one of God’s Men.”  Check it out!

Be sure to come and cheer our Christian Fellowship co-ed softball team every Tuesday at 7:10 pm at WPOS on Angola Road starting May 21 and continuing until the end of July.  If you have any questions or would like to sub for the team, contact Cory Fritch.  They are also looking for any old equipment you would be willing to donate to the team.  Drop off any donations at the church and put them in the box marked “softball donations” in the coat room.

New Ladies Sunday School Class

One in a Million

Ladies…we want to invite you all to a new Sunday School class that will be starting on May 19 called, One in a Million (Journey to Your Promised Land) by Priscilla Shirer.

“The Egyptians in Exodus 1 were intent on enslaving the Israelites, wearing them down so that God’s chosen people would become disillusioned and not live up to their destiny.  Of the original two million Israelites who received God’s invitation to enter the Promised Land, only two actually entered it!  Modern day Christians often hear and understand the promises of God each Sunday morning at church but then rarely choose to experience them in everyday life.  In One in a Million, Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer invites us to change that pattern for good, living beyond our circumstances and expecting to see God move in miraculous ways day after day. Without a doubt, we can find and follow God’s purpose for our journey. We can make it to the Promised Land!”

This is a seven-week  study with five days of homework each week.  Each Sunday we will watch a video that will be 35-45 minutes long, then break into discussion groups.  If you are interested in being in this study, please see Penny Goodman or Becky Borck to order a book.

50th Wedding Anniversary

Priestap 50th Anniversary-May 2013

On Saturday evening, May 4, we celebrated the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Terry and Jean Priestap.  Many friends and family were there to celebrate their 50 years together.  After a wonderful meal, and some musical favorites led by their family, everyone had the opportunity to share their favorite story of Terry and Jean through the years.  It was evident that the years have only deepened the love they have for each other and for Christ.

Western Avenue Capital Campaign

Western Ave LogoWestern Avenue is in the process of transforming the Viking Lodge into a usable place for dynamic ministry.  God has moved the property owners to donate, city council to write off back taxes, churches to volunteer and give, and even a promise of free labor valued at $100,000.00  Our church has pledged $15,000 for this capital campaign.  Two sets of envelopes numbered $1-$100 were distributed last week.  If all envelopes are returned, our members will have raised $10,000 for this project.  The church will donate the remaining $5,000.  There are a few envelopes remaining and they have been placed on the table in the foyer.  Please prayerfully consider taking one of these envelopes and returning it by Sunday, May 26, 2013.  Every gift, no matter the size, will together make a difference.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ray Pritchard and his wife Marlene this weekend at Christian Fellowship and Western Avenue Ministries.  They will be conducting a short but focused “conference” on the topic of Encouragement for Christians at Western Avenue Ministries.  We have asked them to especially address how to avoid or counter the burnout feeling so many of us get in Christian service.  Please let David Kaiser know if you can join them for no more than 2 hours on Saturday, April 27 starting at 3:30 pm.  The goal is to encourage you in your work for our mutual Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  An optional (free) dinner will follow the meeting.

Dr. Pritchard will be preaching at the morning worship service at Christian Fellowship this Sunday, April 28.  He will also be preaching at the Mosaic Service at Western Avenue at 5:00 pm on the 28th.

“Dr. Ray Pritchard serves as president of Keep Believing Ministries, an Internet-based community serving Christians in 225 countries.  Keep Believing Ministries exists to equip and encourage people to keep believing in Jesus.  For 26 years he pastored churches in Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago.  Dr. Pritchard has authored over 25 books, including An Anchor for the Soul, Stealth Attack, The Healing Power of Forgiveness, Credo: Believing in Something to Die For, In the Shadow of the Cross, and Why Did This Happen to Me?  He and his wife Marlene have been married 38 years.  They have three sons and two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren.”
