What is the way of Salvation? What do we need to be saved from?
This page contains a summary of why all people everywhere (including you) need to be saved and how anyone may be saved.
The Bad News
Before we get to the good news, we must first give the bad news. Without this, you will not know why you need Christ so save you.
- We have all sinned, breaking God’s law. The Word of God says that there is none righteous, not even one. Romans 3:23, Romans 3:9-10
- Our sin has earned us death in God’s court of justice. Romans 6:23
- Not only that but it is actually impossible to be justified in God’s sight by trying to keep God’s law yourself. “For the Law merely brings awareness of sin.” Your works will never be good enough, whether you are a Jew or Gentile. (Romans 3:19-20, Galatians 3:10)
The Good News (Gospel) of What Christ Has Done
- But God has provided his own righteousness that can be applied to you freely. Romans 3:21-26
- Because of God’s mercy and love for us, he sent His own son, Jesus, to take away our sins, taking your punishment on himself, suffering and dying on the cross. John 3:16, Ephesians 2:4-5, 1 Corinthians 15:3
- On the third day, he rose from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:4-8
- If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Mark 1:15, Romans 10:9
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16
God’s Free Gift is Guaranteed!
- When you hear and believe this good news, you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of your salvation. You have been born of the Spirit. Unless you are born of the Spirit, you cannot see the Kingdom of God. (It is not by works or by family bloodline!) Ephesians 1:13-14, John 3:5-6, John 5:24
- We can do nothing to earn or merit this salvation. It is a free gift from God and is received only by faith in Jesus Christ (which is also a gift from God). It is not by works, so that no one may boast before God. Ephesians 2:8-9
- Therefore, salvation cannot be either lost or earned by our own works. (see the previous two points)
- There is no other way to be saved except through Jesus. John 14:6, Acts 4:12
What’s Next?
If you have believed upon Christ and have been sealed with His Holy Spirit by faith, you will find that you have new desires that are in accord with God’s. The Scriptures call this a “circumcised heart” (Romans 2:29). You have been “born again” (John 3:3). You will now have a desire to walk in obedience to the Lord (Jeremiah 31:31-34). This is what is known as “walking by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:24-25). In light of this, we urge you to join a local church where you can be spiritually nourished that you might walk in obedience to the Lord (Romans 6:4, Hebrews 10:25) and begin to enter into the fullness of joy that is ours in Christ. Although we will not fully enter into this joy until we are with him (Psalm 16:11), we may grow more and more into maturity-into the “fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).
One of the first things a new believer wants to do is to be identified with Christ in water baptism (Acts 2:41). If you have believed on Jesus Christ and would like to be baptized and become part of a local body of Christians, or if you have any further questions, please contact us!
